Readying to Go!!!!!

Do what you can when you can!!!!!

It’ll probably take me over a month in Marie-Galante anyways. Around three weeks between the two vaccine shots (I disagree with the laws around this but it seems practically necessary to travel). Two more weeks after that before I can go to Dominica at the earliest. Also some time before that to make plans, and some leeway time.

Sometimes it takes a mishap to open the door to opportunity!

Looks somewhat more expensive on Marie-Galante, which I already expected as I think it’s a more touristy location. Looks like there are more rentals available than I’d expected at somewhat reasonable rates. I think it should work. I’m also considering renting an apartment by the month, instead of renting vacation type places by the day or week. Seems to make things even more affordable, around the same as I’m paying in Capesterre! Not a reason to stay!

Kind of fun to plan travel! :)

Somewhat tricky, too. Trying to arrange ferry, apartment, ride, etc.

Huge downpour of rain! Guess I’m not booking a place just yet! :) We’ll see how this plays out…

Trying to figure out the French classification of jobs. I think I’m a profesionnel liberal, rather than an artisan ou commercant, auto-entrepreneur, CDI, CDD, etc.! :)

Weird, I think I can do even better than I have. Figuring out how the local markets work. Sometimes you have to go through mishaps to find better ways! :)

I could buy a bull or a pig or a goat! :) I think I’d go for the goat! :)

This is turning into an adventure! :)

Looking through rentals, I feel like I’m traveling again!!!!! :)

I’m finding tons of rentals after a lengthy search. Doesn’t seem so intimidating to go now. Aiming to leave soon! :)

I feel like I’m regaining some of my travel skills, which had withered away over the last years of COVID!

From what I’m seeing on the map, Marie-Galante looks quite comparable to this part of Guadeloupe. Not that surprising, given that they’re parts of the same small country. I think maybe a bit more chill on Marie-Galante, like for vacationers (even more so).

If you go to the Caribbean, I think that the Greater Antilles (larger islands to the west) have generally better weather, prices, and in a sense culture than the Lesser Antilles.

Waking up planning to go in a week or two! Still feels surreal!!!!! No more grocery sprees locally!

Still feeling somewhat sick but whatever. I’ll recover! I AM recovering, I already feel noticeably better than a few days ago.

New phrase for me: “a la une”, as in “on page one" (of the newspaper), to describe an item of main importance.

I think I can go through with leaving in January! Even after deciding I’ve felt somewhat iffy due to weather, illness, roadblocks, rentals, etc. Now that I’m looking into the details it seems quite feasible. I’m mainly focusing on whether to aim for January 22 or 29 to leave.

An extra week to recover? Or push it while I can?

Now leaning… 22 if I can, but with considerable leeway given the extenuating circumstances.

I’m not too concerned about a week after like a year or two.

I’m going in January unless there’s a severe override, e.g. too sick/rainy/fascist to ride! :)

Feels great when an action plan is underway! Even if it’s loaded with caveats. A lot more mental clarity than when waffling uncertainly over whether to go ahead. Feels like a train under steam, instead of negotiating over logistics.

See the freedom! Feel the freedom!

I think I’m down from weeks to days until I go!!!!! :)

Tell me when the COVID meme’s dead! :)

I now feel like I have a feel for the rental market and the geography of Marie-Galante!

Ready to go! Maybe a last week of recovery from illness, letting the weather clear up, etc., then push out?! :)

Super excited to go! Then even if COVID drags on a few more months, at least I’ll have new places to explore!

Also if COVID wanes, I can then more easily and rapidly travel to new countries!!!!! :)

Now attempting to focus on my local-ish travels instead of the COVID crap, let that situation fix itself.

Rock on!!!!!
