"The Island? It's home," says the Captain.

The captain gestures around at all the rafts, sweeping in the water, and the log that you're holding onto. "Ours. Yours. Everybody's." A wave leaps out of the water and waves at you.

"Relax. The Island is where everybody comes from. Hey, it's also where everyone goes ''to''."

"Well I hardly know the place," you reply. "And I don't feel at home here."

You float in the water, confused. A [[Tropicalia/gollichord|multicolored bird]], like a giant glowing liquid dragon, flies overhead.

"Not yet, anyway," says the Captain.

"The Island is a gathering spot," says a woman, climbing over from her raft to one closer to the Captain's. She steps gingerly over a network of wooden planks connecting the rafts together.

"So what happens here?" you ask.

"And who gathers?" You ask.

"Anything. Everything. What do you want to happen?"

The woman looks around, to indicate the Raftspeople. A gentle wind carries forth from her glance, expanding to indicate other people who are not too far off yet not within view.

"Look, do you ever just give a straight answer?" You ask the Captain surprisingly sharply.

"Are there any special gathering times, or places? Or should I just show up?"

The cool water bristles. A chill runs through the people.

The Captain looks you over again. This time he seems to hold you in higher respect than when he first sized you up.

"OK, OK," you say, backing off your tone slightly. "I just want to understand the nature of the place."

"Look, kiddo. Are you looking for adventure?"

"Well," says the Captain, now  more thoughtfully. "You'll have to find out for yourself. However, if it helps, I highly recommend that you get off that log and onto someplace more solid.
