Patches of blue light swam together beneath his feet. Cool air gently blew against his face, and through his air. A smell of flowers, almost like music, drifted into his awareness. David recognized several faces as his gaze traveled over the handrail, across the water, to the far side of the land. Placing his hands firmly on the railing, he lifted himself over the safety bars. Before another thought crossed his mind, he hurled himself off the bridge, towards the water below. Floating, floating, he felt the breeze more rapidly against his skin. Spinning around, the world flew fast all around him. In a dizzying spiral, he climbed out of his fall, towards the sky, and flew cloudward. Flying, flying, the land receded away from him, falling faster than he could think. Faces disappeared, bodies blurred into landscapes, landscapes drifted away into a formless palette. As colors melted into each other, and sounds gave way to noises, David finally recognized something: the recurring hymnlike rainbow of his dreams.
