The rafts weren't always here, and we didn't bring them. You see, we came as you did. Mysteriously transported here by an unknown force. Why we came, we still don't know.
Each of us got here separately. I arrived here third, that's how I became captain. No, don't ask about the other two.
We have learned a great deal about this land, even without knowing how or why we arrived. We have figured out how to survive. This is one of the first places people come, but usually they drown, or disappear in the nearby volcano. We have a theory that the Island provided us with these rafts to prevent more people from dying. We believe that the Island wants us here, wants us to live.
You look like you don't believe me. Well, there are a few skeptics among us, so don't think that this will prevent you from joining us. Yes, most of us do believe that the Island wants us here, though.
Back to the rafts. When Jarluyan and I were swimming away from a deadly typhoon, once, a small piece of land appeared to just out of the ocean. It looked like a rock, so we swam towards it, hoping to grab onto something solid long enough to ride out the typhoon. Of course we expected to die, and that even if we did somehow make it, the gollichord birds would finish us off.
To our surprise and delight, however, the rock turned out instead to be a lugufruit tree. You see, if you haven't already encountered any of these, under stress the tree can grow at an incredible rate.
So, we held on for dear life, and the tree exploded in a rainbow of branches, shooting off fresh fruit in every direction. We ate as much of the fruit as we could, not so much out of hunger as to prod the tree to grow more branches. The wood can be extremely useful.
The more fruit we ate, the more branches kept sprouting on the tree. And at a certain point -- sorry, I can't explain to you exactly how -- the branches grew out in the shape of rafts. These are the same rafts we are on right now, the ones that you see floating here. We haven't even had to do any repairs.
Does that answer your question?
Tropicalia is a magical land of mystery, craft, romance, and more...
