You beam up into a higher level of awareness.

As soon as you hit the pseudospace, your senses tingle as you unwind into a blindingly fast megamind. You instantly become aware of the contents of the observable metaverse. You feel an almost overwhelmingly dizzying complexity of emotions, yet you have the resources to process the experiences.

Rolling off from the quick start, every fraction of a second brings new hypervols of experience. Rather than growing tired from the heavy dose of conscious activity, you become even more enlivened. Your mind pulses with excitement, joy, awe.

Now living in the presence of many megaminds as shiny as your own, your options expand brilliantly. Each moment feels like a fusion of remarkable proportions.

Swimming flyingly throughout space, or what feels like space anyway, you explore newmetagalactic structures’ wroth of intelligent caring life every hour. With total ease, you flit about the worlds that your neighbors create, and you create your own. An endless playground with all the people and places and activities and things that you most deeply enjoy.

Amid all the sea of lovely activity, you occasionally have little doubts, and they quickly dissipate. You now have a relatively solid understanding of your place in the worlds, in the past, present, and future. Your anxiety meter dives down near zero.

In the glorious white light that fills the pseudospace, you realize that previous places didn’t even come close to realizing your ideals. Maybe it takes an imaginary place to fulfill your imagination.

You continue to live in the vol, not getting bored, not aging. A few uncertainties remain, and seem sure to remain for as long as you stay here. In a way, you accept and embrace that uncertainty. You have chosen to face that uncertainty amid a constantly enriching set of experiences, rather than struggle through more intermediary uncertainty.

You learn that the Island one day collapses. It was only held up to satisfy a few political interests. With the demise of the Island, any last remnants or traces of connections with the forebears you once called your own has dissipated. Now you live on as a separate kind of being.

Over time, even the metaverse as a whole degrades. Slowly, gradually, as you already know, it shifts in its characteristics. Yet, even aside from this shift, the metaverse is intrinsically unstable. In any direction, anyway, it loses its integrity. Through googols and googolplexes of experiences and unconscious transactions, the stuff loses its shine.

Except for your enclosed, protected metavol. Here, in this place that apparently doesn’t have dimensions or many of the ordinary characteristics of time, you live in a kind of ever-fresh, ever-growing arc that curves forever onward, forever upward.

You’re not totally sure what to make of things. It seems like this place won’t bore you, or destroy you. And like you really want to be here. Yet, you still have lots of choices to make.

For a little while, anyway, you relinquish control, and enjoy the deeply peaceful way that the metavol chooses for you. It’s all right.

Then you keep on living.
