Traditional religions often focus on moral edicts. To many adherents, the key idea of a religion has more to do with ethics than metaphysics, with what to than with what is. For example, in Christianity, the Golden Rule provides a very simple guide to good behavior.

Values[edit]
Religious values often stem from a desire to satisfy a deity and receive a comfortable afterlife, or avoid an uncomfortable afterlife.
Not all religions preach the same values. However, they tend to encourage behavior that was adaptive during their time of evolution. This usually implies favoring society, labor, and other components of human agricultural civilization.
